Emmy Award Nomination Predictions
The predictions include 70 categories. The fan favorites are the drama Shōgun and the comedy The Bear, both from FX (which is part of Disney Entertainment). You could catch these series on Disney+ and Hulu [4].
The Bear is poised to make history for a comedy series, potentially beating the long-standing record held by 30 Rock, which scored 22 nominations in a single year.
The show takes place in a restaurant kitchen and follows chef Carmen “Carmy" Berzatto, played by Jeremy Allen White, as he deals with some heavy family drama. His brother took his own life, leaving behind a roach-infested restaurant in Chicago.
Running the place wasn’t exactly Carmy’s dream job, but he feels a sense of duty to his brother and family, so he takes it on. Little did he know about the conflicts ahead with his sister, played by Abby Elliott, and his brother’s best friend Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), who works at the restaurant.
When Carmy brings in a Culinary Institute of America-trained sous chef (Ayo Edebiri) to help run things, the staff isn’t too thrilled. They push back against the changes the duo tries to make to up the food game. Despite all the characters’ baggage, viewers can relate to the fast-paced pressure of serving up great food, the high emotions, and the yelling that goes down in a restaurant kitchen.
Shōgun is an American-made historical drama based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel. It racked up 9 million views worldwide in just six days!
Shōgun takes the crown for the best international premiere, even outshining The Kardashians. The cast is stacked with talent like Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, Tommy Bastow, and Fumi Nikaido. Even though Shōgun is an American production, most of the actors are Japanese, and a lot of the dialogue is in Japanese too.
The story of Shōgun unfolds in 1600s Japan, when military leaders known as Shōgun held the most power in the north, even more than the Emperor. Hiroyuki Sanada plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, who is fighting to stay alive amidst conspiracies and enemies in the Council of Regents.
Things get really interesting when a European ship gets stuck in a Japanese bay, and its passengers might be Lord Toranaga’s only hope. All this suspense has viewers hooked!
The Bear and Shōgun may be favorites, but there is plenty of competition from other quality programming. Here’s our full list of 2024 Emmy nomination predictions.
