Mexican Stars Who Captivate
When it comes to Mexican stars, there’s Gabriel Soto. He started as a model, competing internationally. But once on TV sets, he became a public fave. He first acted in soaps like Mi Querida Isabel, Alma Rebelde and Mi Destino Eres Tú. But Amigas y Rivales, launched in 2001, truly boosted his career. This teen telenovela made history.
Since then he’s starred in over a dozen TV soaps. Most recently, Amor Divino y Mi Camino Es Amarte.
Gabriel won Audience Favorite for his lead role with Zuria Vega in Un Refugio Para El Amor. He also scored an award for his work beside Adriana Louvier in Yo No Creo En Los Hombres.
And Mexico isn’t short on talent. One acclaimed lady in telenovela history is Victoria Ruffo.
Victoria gained huge fame and love for her roles in various telenovelas, becoming an icon.
Well-known titles include Simplemente María, La Fiera and Victoria. But in over 20 years on TV, she’s offered up even more. She’s played the lead in 16 telenovelas! The list includes Pobre Niña Rica, Vivo Por Elena, Abrázame Muy Fuerte, La Madrastra and La Malquerida.
Victoria scored Best Young Lead Actress in ’85 for La Fiera and Best Lead Actress in 2013 for Corona de Lágrimas. She was also named one of ‘Los 50 más bellos’ by People en Español magazine.
Another famed Mexican is Kate del Castillo. This gifted actress has graced many telenovelas and series, like the hit La Reina del Sur. Kate has won awards for her versatile skills.
In La Reina del Sur, she played Teresa Mendoza, initially a naive woman dating a Mexican trafficker, who becomes a cartel boss herself. Though first aired on Telemundo, it now streams on Netflix due to its wild success.
Beyond telenovelas, she has crossed over into Hollywood. Kate, daughter of actor Eric del Castillo, debuted in film at six in 1978’s The Last Escape. But her role as Leticia in Muchachitas marked a positive career shift.
What about TV star Angélica Vale? Like Kate, she comes from an artistic family. Her mom is “La Novia de México”, Angélica María, and dad is famous singer Raúl Vale. Angélica acts, sings, impersonates and cracks jokes, enjoying huge success. Her most acclaimed role was the lead in La Fea Más Bella. But she’s worked as an actress for almost 30 years! Many remember her from the teen soaps Soñadoras and Amigas Y Rivales.
As a comic, Vale was a noted celeb impersonator on the comedy shows La Parodia and Parodiando. She has voiced roles in hit animated films like Ice Age: The Meltdown, Dawn of The Dinosaurs, Continental Drift, Coco and more.
Speaking of La Fea Más Bella, there’s Jaime Camil. Against his businessman father’s wishes, this TV personality, singer and actor entered showbiz. Although his father later became supportive.
He debuted in ’95 with his show El Show de Jaime Camil. In ’96 he hosted Qué Nochecita with Jaime Camil.
Since then he has hosted many shows in Mexico and the US, like CBS’ La Lotería Loca. His international fame came via telenovelas like Las Tontas No Van Al Cielo, Que Pobres Tan Ricos and The CW series Jane The Virgin.
Jaime Camil is a Mexican talent with international appeal–catch him on DISH!
