House of the Dragon Season 2 Cast, Release Date, Schedule & Where to Watch

Lyan Babilonia / Updated Jul 05, 2024 | Pub. Jun 14, 2024

The wait for the second season of House of the Dragon will end next Sunday, June 16. The prequel to Game of Thrones will premiere on the streaming platform Max, formerly known as HBO Max, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time [1].

House of the Dragon 2 will captivate the audience after nearly two years of waiting, as the first season ended in October 2022.

House of the Dragon Season 1 Finale Recap and What to Expect Now

The first season ended with the tragic death of Lucerys Velaryon at the hands of Aemond Targaryen, along with his enormous dragon, Balerion.

Lucerys’ death fueled the Blacks’ revenge, led by Rhaenyra and Daemon, and their desire to eliminate the Greens, led by Alicent Hightower and her father Otto. This sparked the struggle for survival between the Black and Green factions.

King Viserys’ death from leprosy led to his son Aegon assuming the throne. However, this enraged Rhaenyra, who claimed it was a theft backed by Daemon and a coalition including the Velaryons. The war for the legitimate ruler escalated, intensifying the discord between Rhaenyra and Daemon.

As the series progresses, the conflicts and power struggles will continue, their outcomes unknown. What is certain is that this season will allow fans to understand how the war between Aegon II and Rhaenyra begins, claiming the lives of some family members, including innocents.

House of the Dragon is set two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones and is based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel, Fire & Blood. It explores the Targaryen family’s history and their tumultuous rule over the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The series is the first of several spin-offs anticipated after the success of Game of Thrones [2].

Another expected series is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, currently in pre-production.
